For the past several months, I, SprintingOwl, (https://kumada1.itch.io/) have been overtaken by horses.
I wrote the first couple pages of the thing that became Original Finish by mistake. And then I wrote the rules expansion the same way. And then the scenario. And then I wrote, researched, gathered expert opinions on, and playtested the revised edition the same way.
The thing is, writing games about horses is fun. If you haven't, I highly encourage you to try it.
The goal of this jam is to see what other people do with the rules and concepts of Original Finish. (https://kumada1.itch.io/original-finish-revised) You can also write your own horse game, but I know there's ideas in here that I didn't think of or didn't get to explore.
You can use any version of Original Finish, although the Revised Edition is the most coherent and complete, and you can write any kind of content. An alternative game mode. A scenario. A way that you would play or reskin the game. A means for stretching the definition of horses.
Please download Original Finish for free (hit 'claim access') for the sake of this jam. I do not want anyone to pay me in order to jam.
Similarly, Original Finish Revised Edition is CC BY 4.0 with a carve-out that says if you're not evil you can make commercial work. Please feel free to read the exact text on the rights page, but just don't be evil. I want everyone to make stuff and make a living and succeed.
If you need help, you can hit me on bluesky @SprintingOwl and I'm happy to give advice or recommend resources. Also if you haven't made a game before but you really like horses, you should make a game! I would love to see what kinds of things people write when they're coming at this topic from a different background than mine! And if you'd like to write a game but you're not sure you'll be able to, that's okay. I've had bad writer's block before. You're absolutely welcome here.
Now go forth and usher in a golden age of horse design!
